Description

This gorgeous hand-sculpted moon jar has been burnished to a silky sheen, embellished with three small un-burnished ammonites and saggar-fired. The foil saggar was loaded with organic material and minerals that released fumes which were absorbed into the jar’s still porous body creating unique patterns during the final firing process. As the jar was lifted from its silvery cocoon the colours changed as they oxidised in the surrounding air and settled to their final shade. Two layers of wax have teased the subtleties of these colours to the fore.

Due to the low firing temperature of this piece it is not waterproof and is therefore purely decorative.
